A Civil Society Organizations, CSO, based in Abuja, Vote Must Count International Initiative, VMCII, has demanded immediate declaration of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, the winner of the 2023 presidential election held on 25 February.
The group pointed out that the results of the election captured in the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, revealed that the Labour Party candidate won the presidential election.
The CSO rejected the presidential election results as announced by the electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
VMCII insisted that the electoral umpire failed to conduct the election according to the Electoral Act, but implemented a doctored script already prepared as a selection game plan to retain the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in power.
The CSO alternatively demanded a cancellation of the election and for a process of conducting fresh presidential polls to commence, recommending the appointment of an interim government to organize and conduct the election.
Dr. Barry Avotu, the Director of the group in the country, in a press statement in Abuja, called for withdrawal of the Certificate of Return issued to the presidential candidate of the ruling APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The statement by VMCII reads in part: “INEC refused to follow the rules of the game,which provides that the results of votes cast were expected be uploaded in realtime. These are election irregularities that provided the platform for election rigging.
“As a democracy crusader group,we are using this opportunity to seek redress and urge that a new electoral calendar be drawn up that will provide a sound electoral process, in which results shall reflect the choice of the Nigerian people.”
