The Senator Representing Enugu East Senatorial district, Chimaraoke Nnamani, has conceded defeat after his failure to secure a re-election bid to the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
Following the death of Barrister Oyibo Chukwu, who was murdered 48 hours to the senatorial election initially scheduled for 25 February, the poll was postponed.
Chukwu’s brother, Kelvin Chukwu, participated in Labour Party’s rerun primary and emerge victorious.
Fortunately, Kelvin defeated the sitting Senator Nnamani at the election which took place on Saturday.
The LP candidate secured 69, 136 votes while the sitting Senator of the Peoples Democratic Party, polled 48, 701 votes.
Speaking in a congratulatory message to the LP candidate, Nnamani stated that the results of the polls were in synchrony with people’s wishes, adding that a contrary outcome could have nulified the trend.
Nnamani, who is a former Governor of Anambra state, wished the Senator-elect a success in service as the people’s representative.
He called on his supporters to be peaceful and accept the results of the election.
His words read, “The result of the election is in tandem with the rave of the moment in the South East zone who have identified with Labour Party . A contrary result would have negated the trend.
“I wish the Enugu East senator-elect a successful tenure in the upper legislative chamber.”
