The executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has stated that he never worked against Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the just concluded presidential election in Rivers State.
He made this known at a summit in the state with petroleum marketers.
Speaking through his representative at the summit, Emeka Woke, his Chief of Staff, the Governor pointed out that his stance during the polls was predicated on fairness, justice and equity principles.
He expressed displeasure over the rumours making the rounds that he worked against the labour party candidate.
Wike reiterated that the Northern Nigeria had done its eight years at the presidency, adding that it’s the turn of the South to rule Nigeria.
According to Emeka: “You can agree with me that there are a lot of insinuations and misinformation that his excellency worked against the Labour Party presidential candidate.
“I want to stand here to tell you and of course, you know that his excellency is a man who will stand by his words any time any day and speak his mind.
“His excellency did not work against any southern presidential candidate. The position of his excellency is that of equity and fairness.
“The north has done their eight years and so it is time for the south. That is his excellency’s position. He did not hide it, he spoke about it. And so my brothers, there is nothing to shy away from because our hands are clean.” Woke stated.
The Labour Party presidential candidate had, during an interview at the Arise Television recently, stated that he won the presidential election in Rivers State, but adding that the Governor of the state came out against him.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had announced Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, as the Winner of the presidential election in Rivers State after polling 231,591 votes as against Obi, his closest rival, who secured 175,071 votes.
The presidential election is currently being challenged in court by the presidential candidates of Labour Party and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
