A military drone belonging to the United States of America has crashed into the Black Sea following a collision with Russian fighter jets.
The US military stated that the said drone was on a routine mission before two military jets belonging to Russia attempted to intercept it on Tuesday.
“Our MQ-9 aircraft was conducting routine operations in international airspace when it was intercepted and hit by a Russian aircraft, resulting in a crash and complete loss of the MQ-9,” the US said, according to the BBC.
The development is a sign of probably direct confrontation between the two countries over the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The war has lingered for several months now with no possible end in sight as Russia is determined to take over the sovereign state of Ukraine.
However, the Russian military has denied any contact with the crashed US drone, explaining that the drone crashed following what it called a sharp manoeuvre.
The Russian Ministry of Defence, in a press statement, noted that the drone was in motion with its tracking communication device (transponder) turned off.
The US had summoned Anatoly Antonov, the Russian Ambassador in the country, to express its displeasure with the action by the Russian military.
