The Labour Party, LP, has described as well-deserved, the victory of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Lagos State as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Apparently, Obi secured 582,424 votes to defeat his closest rival, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 572,606 votes.
A former Vice President of Nigeria who is the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, came third with a total of 75,750 votes.
The results were declared by Adenike Oladiji, the Lagos State returning officer.
Dayo Ekong, the Lagos State Chairman of the Labour Party, while addressing newsmen on Monday, stated that though the party emerged victorious in the state, yet the margin ought to have been higher.
Recall that their were reports and circulating videos of voters that were disenfranchised in the state as a result of the activities of thugs and a particular political party forcing people who were not voting for them to go to another polling unit.
He assured party supporters that LP would get justice for those that weren’t allowed to cast their votes no matter what it takes.
According to him: “This victory is a well deserved one. But, however, amidst all the attacks, intimidation and suppression and everything, Nigerians showed their resilience by making sure that they exercise their franchise – their civic right. And this is what we saw in the election in Lagos State,” Ekong said.
“We are still not going to rest, because we are out to make sure that every Nigerian vote counts. Places that we were disenfranchised like Ibeju Lekki, Surulere, Apapa and so on and so forth. We are not going to rest on our oars, until we get justice for great Obidients.”
