Just In: Supreme Court Upholds Adeleke’s Victory

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Nigeria announced its decision to declare Ademola Adeleke as the Governor of Osun State.

The Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate had been declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having received 403,371 votes, which surpassed the All Progressives Congress’s candidate, then-incumbent governor Adegboyega Oyetola, who got 375,027 votes.

However, Oyetola and the APC disputed the election result and sought a legal action.

The governorship election took place on July 16, 2022, and in its majority ruling on January 27, 2023, led by Justice Tertse Kume, the tribunal nullified Adeleke’s victory and declared Oyetola the rightful winner of the election.
