Ikpeazu Comes Distant Third As Abaribe Retains Abia South Senatorial Seat

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has emerged the winner of Abia South Senatorial zone election in Abia state preventing the sitting Governor of the State, Okezie Ikpeazu, from making it to the federal legislative Assembly.

Abaribe polled 49,693, while the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Chinedu Onyeizu, who is his closest rival in the race got 43,903 votes.

The Governor of Abia state scored 28,422 which came as a surprise to some of his allies.

Recall that Abaribe’s gubernatorial ambition was blocked by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, under the leadership of Okezie Ikpeazu who also prevented the former minority leader from clinching the PDP Senatorial ticket, hence he defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, from where he emerged the winner of the Senate seat.
