Kanu To UK Govt: Release Me Before Buhari Vacates Aso Rock

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has called on the government of the United Kingdom to intervene in his case and secure his release from the custody of the Department of States Services, DSS, prior to President Muhammadu Buhari’s handover to the next administration.

According to Vanguard, Kanu made this known while meeting a UK diplomat.

Kanu is seeking the secession of the Old Eastern region, now known as South-East and South-South, from Nigeria.

The IPOB leader was illegally captured by Nigerian government in collaboration with its Kenyan counterpart in June, 2021.

Since he was brought back to Nigeria, Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of States Services, DSS, from where he has been appearing in court to hear Charges against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

However, the Appeal Court in Abuja cleared the IPOB leader of all charges against him on 13 October, 2022, and declared him free.

But the Federal Government refused to release him, declaring him a flight.

As the Buhari’s administration is making plans to handover to another government in May this year, the IPOB leader is calling for his release before another administration takes over power.
