Aminu Danmaliki, a 60-year-old man who allegedly got married to an underaged girl in Kano State, has refuted the speculations.
Danmaliki, in a post on his Facebook account on Wednesday said his newly married wife was not 11 years old as rumored, but 21 years old.
He stated that the wedding video was trending online, but they decided not to respond to rumours until they were advised to clear the air.
According to him: “My recent marriage with Sakina has generated a lot of tension and unfounded allegations that I married an underage girl some suggesting she is 11 years old and that she was forced to marry me. That is untrue.
“The wedding video went viral. We decided to keep mute but were advised to state the true facts. Here it is: My beloved wife is 21 years old she made her own choice of me as her husband, and I loved her too.
“I hope the blackmailers and doubting Thomas’s will see the reality in this picture and leave us alone to enjoy our honeymoon.”
Many have condemned the alleged underage marriage by Danmaliki, emphasizing on the need for the government to protect the right of the girl child in the country.
