Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the Chairman of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Council of Elders, has berated some persons creating ethnic tension in Lagos State, describing them as “political rascals”.
Recall that the gubernatorial ambition of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of Labour Party in Lagos State was associated with the Igbo tribe, hence there was a stiff opposition against his candidacy by some persons who claimed to be the owners of Lagos.
During the guber election on 18 March, there was a very high rate of voter suppression against the Igbos in the state.
Since the incident, there is a growing call for the Igbos to take their investments back home, and vacate the mega city.
Reacting to the development, the Ohanaeze chieftain insisted that the Igbos had invested so much in Nigeria, and therefore they were going nowhere.
He stated that there was no war between the Igbos and Yorubas.
Iwuanyanwu made this known on Saturday during the ceremony in Anambra held in commemoration of Professor Charles Soludo’s one year in office.
“We are in Nigeria and we have invested in Nigeria. Our investments are so much. We are not going to take the pressure of people telling us to go. We are not going anywhere.
“I want to tell those in Lagos to realise that there is no war between us (Igbo) and Yoruba. They are just political rascals, and we’re going to handle them,” he stated
Iwuanyanwu said he held a meeting of Ohanaeze Council of Elders on Wednesday, where the events in Lagos were assessed.
He said, “I want to tell you that people who attended from our branches in America, Canada, Europe, London and Nigeria have resolved and I want those from Lagos to go home and tell those in Lagos.”
