Fredrick Nwajagu, the Ezeigbo of Ajao Estate in Lagos State, has vowed to extend an invitation to the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to protect Igbos in Lagos.
He stated this in a trending video, adding that the threat was unavoidable in view of the onslaught on some Igbo people in the South Western state.
Nwajagu maintained that the Igbos in Lagos needed security to avert attacks on them by some persons in state.
He noted that having their own security would give the attackers the signal that they were prepared for them.
According to him: “IPOB, we will invite them. They have no job. All of the IPOB will protect all of our shops. And we have to pay them. We have to mobilise for that. We have to do that. We must have our own security so that they will stop attacking us in the midnight, in the morning, in the afternoon.
“When they discover that we have our own security, before they will come, they will know that we have our own men there. I am not saying a single word to be hidden. I am not hiding my words, let my words go viral. Igbo must get their right and get stand in Lagos State.
“To start with, the ever-ready @LagosPoliceNG will never fold its arms and allow such within the state,” he further stated.
The already strained relationship between the Igbos and Yorubas escalated after the 2023 presidential election which saw to the victory of Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, over his counterpart in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in Lagos State.
The massive victory of Obi was seen as the making of the Igbos, even when other tribes participated in the election in the state, hence some Yorubas threatened to deal with anyone coming out to cast vote for another party except APC during the state level elections in the country.
During and after the elections attacks on Igbos and high rate of voter suppression were recorded.
